HAVANA (Instituto Cubano del Turismo) 1950s Poster

$22.00$48.00

Cuba became a popular tourist destination for travelers in the 1920s thanks in large part to its proximity to the United States and its relaxed attitude towards alcohol while the U.S. was under prohibition. Tourism was a major source of income for Cuba during this time, but factors including World War II led to a sharp decline in foreign visitors. That began to change during the 1950s, and the Cuban government pushed to bring their tourism numbers (and dollars) back up to what they once were. The plan worked, and Cuba once again became a hot destination for vacationers, with Havana becoming known as “The Latin Las Vegas.” The blinding lights and bustling nightlife of 1950s Havana are pictured perfectly in this travel poster by the Cuban Tourism Institute.
