MARSEILLE (Point de Départ de la Côte d’Azur) 1929 Poster

$22.00$48.00

The period between WWI and WWII was characterized by rapid industrialization that transformed culture and spawned the Art Deco design style. French Artist Roger Broders (1883-1953) employed this style when he was hired in the early 1920s to create travel posters for the PLM rail line. Visually embracing technological progress, Broders glamorizes locomotive travel in rich colors and bold shapes. A puff of smoke wafts into a sun-bleached sky above the dependable, but luxurious train, as the azure waters of the Mediterranean Sea await in the near distance.
