American Airlines (New York World’s Fair) 1964 Poster

$22$48

The 1964-1965 World’s Fair was the third major world’s fair to be held in New York City. Its theme was “Peace Through Understanding,” dedicated to “Man’s Achievement on a Shrinking Globe in an Expanding Universe.” To symbolize the theme, a 12-story high, stainless-steel model of the earth called the Unisphere was constructed. To promote its services in conjunction with the big event, American Airlines commissioned artist Henry Bencrathy to create a special poster, including a depiction of the gleaming Unisphere against a shadowy New York City skyline.
