AUSTRIA (Winter in Austria) 1937 Poster

$22$48

Joseph Binder (1898-1972) was an Austrian lithographer whose artwork was influenced by the De Stijl and Cubism movements. In 1927 he acted as one of the founding fathers of the national Austrian designers association, Design Austria, who continue to remember him through an international design competition, the Joseph Binder Award. In the mid-1930s Binder came to US as a guest teacher, and began designing posters. He went on to win many international awards, creating commercial art and travel posters such as his famous piece for the 1939 New York World’s Fair, and this superb work for his native Austria. Churchgoers don traditional folkwear as they descend the steps of a chapel perched serenely on one of the country’s many glorious mountain slopes.
