John Atherton was a commercial illustrator who designed for General Motors, Shell Motors, and Dole. In 1939, he was commissioned to create a poster for the New York World’s Fair. His superb Art Deco piece includes the Perisphere, Trylon, Helicline, and a globe, all enveloped in the embrace of Lady Liberty.
