United Airlines (Hawaii) 1950s Poster

This joyous poster advertising travel to Hawaii via United Airlines was created in the 1950s by Joseph Fehér. Born in Hungary, Fehér discovered a great love for Hawaii in his mid-twenties after immigrating to the United States and spending 18 months in Kalapana, Hawaii. Fehér’s artistic work often depicted the Hawaiian islands, and in his late thirties he was able to fulfill a long-time dream by permanently moving to Hawaii after being offered an invitation to teach at the Honolulu Academy of Arts. This beautiful poster was created for United Airlines while Fehér was living in Hawaii, and it depicts island life, a larger-than-life hula dancer, and fish native to the region with a United Airlines Douglas DC-4 flying overhead.
